As one of the most vocal non-trads to oppose Nathan Mills article, I have now been put in the position, by your paper, to defend him. I consider myself a very active non-trad and can verify first-hand that the MSSU community of traditional and non-trad students stand united. I can attest to that personally, as the 2008 Homecoming Queen, elected by the students at 48 years old. Nathan Mills article could have potentially driven a wedge between trads and non-trads, but instead has been turned into a positive, money-making situation for MDA by doing the responsible thing for the MSSU community and calling a truce. The nasty comments and personal attacks on Nathan have ceased because of his selfless participation in the "Revenge of the MSSU Non-trad" event today (which was covered by KODE). By allowing Nathan to "feel our pain," MSSU non-trads donated money to MDA through his fraternity, Kappa Alpha, and in return Nathan agreed to allow non-trads to remove body hair. Nathan and the non-trads raised almost $200 for MDA by shaving his head, shaving off his right eyebrow, shaving the left side of his beard and shaving his right leg. Granted, Nathan does look unique (stupid) walking around campus like that, but he stepped up and participated in the diffusion of a situation that could have potentially escalated and perpetuated a divided campus, while benefitting both MDA and MSSU. I'm not sure how you handle things across the Missouri tate line at Pitt State, but this is how we handle things on our campus, standing united...through the good and the bad and turning a negative situation positive.
