Abstract:
As the editor of the Collegio, I am a casual observer of our "competition." I enjoy reading other student newspapers from across the region to see what issues are facing students outside of PSU. This can often be a source of inspiration for me and it also serves as a reflection of our performance, a measuring stick if you will....

"As a student, I can understand the frustration that over zealous non-trads can cause," What do you mean by this? As a Student I can also understand the apathy that traditional students have, and the negativity this causes those of us who WANT to be in class. Why single out non-trads? The headline in this article suggests you are defending non-trads, however you are ranting about language and morals. "As a student, I can understand the frustration that over zealous non-trads can cause," You took a cheap shot too.

As one of the most vocal non-trads to oppose Nathan Mills article, I have now been put in the position, by your paper, to defend him.

I consider myself a very active non-trad and can verify first-hand that the MSSU community of traditional and non-trad students stand united. I can attest to that personally, as the 2008 Homecoming Queen, elected by the students at 48 years old.

Nathan Mills article could have potentially driven a wedge between trads and non-trads, but instead has been turned into a positive, money-making situation for MDA by doing the responsible thing for the MSSU community and calling a truce. The nasty comments and personal attacks on Nathan have ceased because of his selfless participation in the "Revenge of the MSSU Non-trad" event today (which was covered by KODE). By allowing Nathan to "feel our pain," MSSU non-trads donated money to MDA through his fraternity, Kappa Alpha, and in return Nathan agreed to allow non-trads to remove body hair. Nathan and the non-trads raised almost $200 for MDA by shaving his head, shaving off his right eyebrow, shaving the left side of his beard and shaving his right leg.
Granted, Nathan does look unique (stupid) walking around campus like that, but he stepped up and participated in the diffusion of a situation that could have potentially escalated and perpetuated a divided campus, while benefitting both MDA and MSSU.

I'm not sure how you handle things across the Missouri tate line at Pitt State, but this is how we handle things on our campus, standing united...through the good and the bad and turning a negative situation positive.

I was among the first to post on Nathan Mills' opinion; I recognized him as an idiot (genius) for drawing me in to comment on his column. I also took an aggressive position defending his "right to write," as well as the editor's decision to publish an obviously controversial opinion.

Is this cutting-edge journalism? No, it was meant to be an edgy, debatable, almost-inflammatory piece to sell newspapers...and sell papers, they did. In fact, it even got the attention of a writer from another state! I have friends who are students and alumni of PSU, a proud, aggresive institution, who would absolutely expect me to defend my school, and point out that The Collegio has contributed to the perpetuation of the success of The Chart.

Nathan Mills is not a bad person, nor a bad writer (although he may have had some technical challenges in this article), he voiced an opinion (not exclusive to MSSU) and was schooled...in a manner that benefitted MSSU and the MDA. It's done, everybody wins, and The Chart's First Amendment rights, and YOURS, are intact!
