Traci Werner, on left in pic, senior in recreation therapy, reacts to a shot by Aaron Ingersoll, of Sibley Mo., during a game of boccia on Saturday, April 29, at John Lance Arena.

Werner and other recreation therapy students hosted the event, which is based on the outdoor lawn game bocce, for Ingersoll and other members of the Kansas City Power and Speed boccia team for special athletes.

Like its outdoor counterpart, boccia is played by two or more individuals who compete to get their set of colored balls closest to the "jack," a white ball that is tossed out at the beginning of the match.

Some versions of the game involve contestants dropping their balls down a ramp, while other versions favor the traditional overhand toss approach.
