Regents approve
tuition hike
The Kansas Board of Regents recently approved a tuition rate increase that will raise tuition at PSU 6.5 percent to $1,617 for one semester for in-state undergraduate students during the 2007-2008 year. This rate hike, which was presented to the board in May, applies to all PSU students. Student fees will also increase, making for a combined tuition and fee total of $2,030 for an in-state undergraduate. The 6.5 percent increase comes after an identical increase in the 2006-2007 school year.

plans Potter party
The Campus Activities Center at Pittsburg State University will host a Harry Potter book release party to celebrate the most recent edition in the famous J.K. Rowling series. A party for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" will be held from 10 p.m. to midnight on Friday, July 20, at the Gorilla Bookstore in the Overman Student Center. The evening will include a Harry Potter-themed costume contest, spelling bee and trivia contest, as well as face painting and refreshments. Participants are encouraged reserve a copy of the new book ahead of time. For more information or to reserve a copy of the book, call Fawn Baker in the bookstore at 235-4875.
Tech workshops
planned for kids
A technology workshop titled "Construct Your Future" is planned for 9 a.m. Monday, July 16, through noon Friday, July 20, at the Kansas Technology Center on the PSU campus. The workshop is geared toward children ages 9 to 14 and conducted by PSU faculty members.
The workshop will explore the professional aspects of the construction industry including 3D modeling, computer estimating and scheduling, along with activities related to a professional construction management career. Registration is $90 per student.
Then from Monday, July 23, to Friday, July 27, "Adventures in Robotics I" will be held, also at 9 a.m. The same registration guidelines apply.

A workshop to offer children a fast-paced look at the materials, processes and design methods of the plastics industry will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 16, through 4 p.m. Friday, July 20. The workshop is aimed at children ages 9 to 14 and will be conducted by Pittsburg State University faculty members at the Kansas Technology Center on the PSU campus. Registration fee is $90 per student.
