As students face higher costs for schooling, travel and other expenses, the last thing they need is a huge medical bill.
Luckily, the PSU Student Health Center offers low-cost services, which could fit any student budget.
"Unlimited office visits are offered to students for general illnesses (standard checkups) throughout the entire semester," said Rita Girth, operations director for the health center. "Our goal is to offer affordable health care to all students."
The center, located at 1801 S. Joplin, treats an assortment of injuries and illnesses without having to leave campus, including diagnosis and treatment of general sickness and treatment of respiratory infections, minor orthopedic injuries and lacerations.
"We can handle a wide array of injuries," said Girth. "And in case a student needs serious medical attention, Mount Carmel is minutes away, with X-ray capabilities and other services available at the student's disposal."
In addition to having widespread treatment capabilities, the center offers other services.
"Counseling programs, men's and women's health services, and additional laboratory tests are offered as well," said Girth.
Students who are not already covered by standard insurance are eligible for student insurance, which can be used at the center.
"There is a statewide student health insurance plan offered. Everyone who is pre-enrolled for the fall semester is eligible and will receive information regarding the plan," said Girth. "The plan is offered by United Health Care Student Resources for an annual rate of $900, which breaks down to approximately $100 per month."
