PSU adopts
new online system

Pittsburg State University has selected a new system to replace Blackboard, the online network used by teachers and students to communicate about class assignments, grades and class materials.
The ANGEL (A New Global Environment for Learning), which went into effect with the start of the fall semester, is a more versatile program than the university's outdated version of Blackboard, which often shut down due to an overloaded system. A university committee charged with replacing the old version of Blackboard viewed four systems before choosing ANGEL.
Some of the reasons the committee went with ANGEL, said Brenda Frieden, a committee member, is that the system has extensive e-mail capabilities, the ability to distribute and collect materials, and the option to create community groups.
So far, PSU has offered 45 three-hour workshops to more than 270 faculty members. More workshops are scheduled through Sept. 7, and will later be offered within each college.
For more information on ANGEL, call Frieden at 235-4243.

P.A.C.T. bus
free to students

Pittsburg State University students can ride the Pittsburg Area Community Transportation bus at no charge when they show their student identification card. PSU has recently joined with the Southeast Kansas Community Action Program to help the bus system's budget. In return, students can ride the bus at no charge.
More information about the bus system (including stop locations and route timing) is available at www.sek-cap.com/Trans%20Announcement.htm.
