Keys to at least five buildings on campus were missing some time during Pittsburg State University's first football game of the season on Saturday, Aug. 25.
"We were extremely busy on Saturday with all the stuff that went on with the football game and someone just took advantage of that time," said John Patterson, vice president of the Office of Administration and Campus Life.
Re-securing campus so that the keys can't be utilized is now top priority, he adds. Locksmiths are working on exterior-door locks and then move to inside doors.
Patterson says several hundred new keys are being made.
"Obviously, we're disappointed that we had a breach of security and we're reacting as quickly as we can," he said. "What had worked for us the last 30 years didn't work for us in this case."
Patterson says there are no suspects at this time.
