Ethos Percussion Group, a group that blends unusual instruments into Western musical styles, will perform Friday, Oct. 19, in McCray Recital Hall. The performance is the second in this season's schedule of the Chamber Music Series.

Every year, the Chamber Music Series selects six performers to put on concerts for Pittsburg State students, staff and faculty, as well as area residents. PSU's music department staff members say that throughout the years, the concerts' wealth of diversity and culture have made the series a success.

James Clanton, music professor and percussion specialist, says he is looking forward to this year's percussion concert.

"The Ethos Percussion Group is one of the finest professional percussion ensembles in the United States," he said. "Their unique sound comes from their varied perspectives in many different genres of world music, as well as their ability to maintain and develop a stunning repertoire that showcases their outstanding talent."

With more than 15 years of experience, the group calls on influences from India, West Africa and the Middle East.
The director of the Chamber Music Series, Susan Marchant, will be leading the Pittsburg State University choir. The choir will join the percussion group during the show for a piece called "Missa Luba," which is an African mass.

"I hope the concert is completely packed," Clanton said. "I assure you that anyone who attends will have a memorable and enjoyable experience."

Other scheduled concerts in the series include: Hakan Rosengran, a clarinet soloist working alongside the Chiara String Quartet, on Friday, Nov. 9; Enrico Elisi, a pianist, on Tuesday, Feb. 19; Cihat Askin, a violinist, on Tuesday, March 4; and Piffaro, a Renaissance-style band, on Friday, March 28.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tickets are free to full-time students at the Overman Center. General admission is $7.
