"For me it's really intense," said Ally Sutton, senior in communication and one of the studio directors. "Actors that have a range of emotions are easy to work with. I'm waiting for the actors who have an emotional capacity."
Only six people tried out for parts at the Grubbs Hall Student Theater on Wednesday, Oct. 24, the first day of one-act auditions. However, the would-be directors said the casting process was a learning experience.
"I'm a little nervous," said Deidre Galloway, senior in communication. "But I know it's a learning experience and I'm ready to get started!"
With an equal ratio of male and female candidates, the audition, at the directors' encouragement, was presented more as a game than a cattle call. Instead of making the actors "perform," the directors asked the actors just to "play."
The directors say they chose this method to get rid of the stiffness that often plagues performers while they audition.
The student-directed one-act plays, which serve as a final project for a directing class, will be presented on Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1.
