Yearbook staff gets top award

The Pittsburg State University Kanza yearbook staff has been recognized by the College Media Advisers and Associated Collegiate Press as producing one of the top college yearbooks in the country.
The students traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to attend the organization's annual fall convention. There, they received a Pacemaker Finalist Award for their work on the university's 2006 yearbook. The PSU students were one of only 13 college yearbook staffs in the country (including schools of all sizes and divisions) to receive the award.

Second City Revue to perform Nov. 8

The Second City Revue, featuring a mix of semi-improvised and scripted scenes as well as improv scenes, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Memorial Auditorium. The performance is part of PSU's Performing Arts and Lecture Series. Tickets are free for PSU students with valid ID, $5 for the public, and $3 for people 65 and older or 17 and younger. PSU's Indian students to celebrate Diwali

The Indian Student Association is holding Diwali, an Indian holiday celebrating the victory of good over evil and signifying the renewal of life. Diwali will feature an Indian meal and a range of cultural performances and fireworks. Diwali will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the dance studio of the Weede Physical Education building. Tickets are $8 for PSU students and $12 for others. Career fair geared to nursing, services

Mask-making session planned for children

Children and families are invited to the Harry Krug Gallery to make clay masks in honor of the spirit of the Day of the Dead, a celebration of loved ones and the cycle of life. Professor to discuss workplace diversity

The PSU Tilford Group is sponsoring this month's Tilford Lecture Series presenter, Joni Barnard, assistant professor in the Department of Technology Management, College of Technology. Her talk, "Diversity in the Workplace," will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, in Room S111 of the Kansas Technology Center. The Tilford Group, named after former Wichita State University graduate Dan Michael Tilford, was established in May 2007 to help foster an understanding of diversity and multicultural issues on campus. Friday last day to drop courses

to talk about safety

PSU police officer Dennis Jameson will lecture on campus, classroom and personal safety. The lecture aims to educate employees how to keep themselves and others safe on campus. Fiction writer to offer reading

As part of the Distinguished Visiting Writer Series, fiction writer Robin Hemley will read from his work from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Governors Room of Overman Student Center. Center seeking quiz bowl team

The Campus Activities Center is seeking a team of four to five professors or staff who can attend college bowl to compete in some "exhibition" matches. The purpose of these matches is to help entertain those not competing. College Bowl is a year-long, campus-wide activity. The campus tournament this year will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom. The winning student team will then compete in the regional tournament in Wichita. The center is also seeking someone who will act as game-show host.

Gathering to highlight China

International Programs and Services will hold an International Gathering focusing on China from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the United Methodist Campus Ministries Center, located one block north of the student center.
