Pittsburg State falls to Northwest Missouri State University 62-46. The No. 20-ranked Bearcats led the whole game, giving the No. 16-ranked Gorillias their second straight loss.

Apparently, the Gorillas prefer to count by three's.
Pitt State shot 10-for-16 from three-point land, including four from sophomore guard Spencer Magana in Wednesday night's game against the Missouri Western Griffons in St. Joseph.
Entering the second half, PSU had shot 62.5 percent from range and their shots continued to fall.

Magana, along with senior Keith Windom and junior Justin McCoy, combined for eight total three-point baskets, pushing the Gorillas forward for their 12th win.

Senior forward Cory Abercrombie continued his tear through the MIAA with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Magana finished with a game-high 18 points.

Windom finshed with eight points and a team-leading eight assists.

On Saturday, the Pittsburg State men's basketball team went just 16-for-47 from the field and the No. 16 Gorillas fell to No. 20 Northwest Missouri State 62-46 at John Lance Arena.
Spencer Magana led the way with 11 points for the Gorillas while Keith Windom scored eight and Cory Abercrombie and Justin McCoy scored seven apiece. Abercrombie pulled down 16 rebounds for a game high, but the Bearcats out-rebounded the Gorillas 39-29.

"They got most of that in the first five minutes," Pitt State head coach Gene Iba said. "Out of their 13 offensive rebounds, they probably got eight buckets. You just can't win like that."
The Gorillas kept it close for most of the first half. They trailed by as much as seven points just three and a half minutes into the game and were able to cut it to a two-point deficit midway through the first half. From there, however, the Bearcats outscored the Gorillas 12-6 to go into halftime with a 31-23 advantage.

The second half was not any friendlier for the Gorillas. Pitt State managed just nine points over the first 13 minutes of the second half and over a span of five minutes was held to just three points.

"They did a nice job on some of our shooters," Iba said. "When shooters aren't getting them in, if I'm on the other side, I'm thinking it's my defense and if I'm on this side I'm thinking our guys aren't shooting the ball in the basket. But it's not just that. We weren't getting any stops. We play off of our defense and it wasn't very good today."

The Gorillas fall to 11-4 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA. The Bearcats improve to 11-4 and 3-3 in the conference.
