For the third week in a row, the Student Government Association had trouble meeting quorum at its 7:30 p.m. meeting Wednesday.
This week, however, Eddie Penner, vice president, started the meeting without quorum and went directly into student opinion time.
Gorilla Geeks, a group run by the Office of Information Services that is responsible for assisting faculty, staff and students with various technology needs, attended the meeting to get SGA more involved in its work.
Amy Wassenaar, a member of Gorilla Geeks, told members of SGA what the Gorilla Geeks had to offer. She explained that they help with e-mails, Gus pins, Angel, technical problems and issues that students have with the campus wireless system. Wassenaar also said that the Gorilla Geeks just started offering training classes for Microsoft Office 2007.
"The students come in and we help them with their problems or just show them around Microsoft Office," Wassenaar said. "We do lots of stuff to help the students. We are open to suggestions, so if you can help us we would love to know your opinions about us and what we can do better."
During student opinion time, other members of the Senate trickled in until SGA met quorum. At that time, a motion was called to officially start the meeting, beginning with re-establishing roll call.
In other business:
- Seven new senators were sworn in to fill vacancies. New senators are: Nathan Woodward, Yury Kuz'michev, Rebecca Wilson, Asja Sutton, Carson Felt, Scott Hopson and Jeremy Wade. Members of SGA also swore in a new graduate senator, Georgia Frangou.
"I'm psyched to be here," Felt said. "I'm ready to get started. I don't really know what I do yet, but it's nice to see all of you."
The next SGA meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Balkans Room of the student center. Students needing to address a campus issue are invited to attend.
