3 students gain
advertising awards


Three Pittsburg State University students walked away with ADDY awards after the Joplin Area Advertising Federation's ADDY banquet held Saturday. ADDY award competitions are held throughout the United States to recognize the best in regional area advertising.

Receiving a Silver ADDY were Rye Addis, senior in communication major for the CAPS 13 Web site; and Zoel Lopez and Maria Barnes, both communication seniors, for their Molle Automotive radio ad.
Addis worked with Mike Gullet, photojournalism professor, over the summer to create the Web site, while Barnes wrote her advertisement last fall in the Media Buying and Selling class and Lopez produced the ad last fall in the Audio Production class.


Wind ensemble
to perform


The first spring semester concert of the Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium. The performance is free and will include several pieces, including "Joy" by Joseph Curiale and "Poem" by Scott Bowerma.


Softball game postponed


The originally scheduled doubleheader against Newman University on Tuesday, Feb. 19, has been rescheduled because of bad weather. The makeup game is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Al Ortolani field on the PSU campus.


Lecture to examine
predators, prey


Yaping Liu, professor in PSU mathematics, will present "Limited Cycles in Predator-Prey Systems," at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Grubbs Hall Room 109. Liu will compare wildlife predators' hunting prey to a mathematical system. Liu will also explain several well-known theories, including Volterra's paradox. Refreshments will be served at 3 p.m. following the free lecture. For more information, call Liu at 235-4402.


Nancy Boyda
to visit PSU


Nancy Boyda, U.S. representative for District 2, will speak at the Kansas Technology Center at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. Boyda will explain a bill that could award the Kansas Technology Center and the Kansas Research Center with grants. Boyda will also visit Kelce Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, to see PSU's Volunteer Tax Assistance/Preparation program.
