However, there may be more to the Pittsburg food landscape than meets the eye. So the next time you gather your loose change and prepare for the ever-convenient fast-food lunch, why not give one of these local restaurants a try?
Harry's Cafe
Harry's cafe operates under the slogan "Mother's only competitor," and is located at 412 N. Broadway. Harry's offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.
"Harry's is great for some hometown cooking," said Kimberly Reed, sophomore in automotive technology. "Breakfast is amazing and something worth getting up for, plus it's cheap."
The breakfast menu includes pancakes and waffles, omelets, hash browns and various breakfast combinations. The lunch and dinner menus offer chicken-fried steak, chicken fillets, sirloin steak and seafood, among other entrees.
The price for a meal is between $4 and $6 for breakfast, and between $5 and $7 for lunch and dinner. Harry's is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
Napoli's
Napoli's opened its doors early in the Fall 2007 semester. It is an Italian restaurant, located at 1301 N. Broadway.
Napoli's offers a full menu of Italian lunch and dinner entrees, including baked pastas, chicken or veal pastas, and numerous house specialties and combinations. All meals are served with fresh hot rolls, and the lunch combinations include a house salad. Napoli's also offers soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzas.
"I like Napoli's because it is one of the few places in Pittsburg to get Italian," said Briggs. "The prices are reasonable, and the food is great."
The price for a meal at Napoli's is between $7 and $10. Napoli's is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
Eleven O Six Drive-In
Eleven O Six is named after its address, 1106 Broadway. It is located close to the Pitt State campus, and is modeled to be like an old-fashioned drive-in. Customers simply pull into a parking space, take a look at the menu, push a button to order, and wait for their food.
Eleven O Six offers a lunch and dinner menu, which consist of hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and a variety of fries. They also include some non-conventional menu items, such as fish and chips, and fried vegetables, including broccoli and zucchini. They also offer ice cream shakes, malts and sundaes.
The cost of a meal is between $4 and $5. Eleven O Six is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Bob's Grill
Bob's Grill, located at 1014 N. Broadway, provides a breakfast and lunch menu, both of which are served all day. It features bar seating around a grill, giving the restaurant a small-town atmosphere.
"I like the fact that you can tell that it's a family place," said Katie Kanatzar, junior in history. You go in, and they are so nice about everything and the food is just amazing."
Bob's Grill offers a variety of breakfast entrees, including biscuits and gravy, omelets and combination specialties. Their lunch menu includes hamburgers, basket deals and sandwiches. The average price for a meal is $4 to $7.
"It is quite an outstanding restaurant," said Devin Reinbold, sophomore in wood technology. "It combines the cheap prices with high quality food, which college students really enjoy."
Bob's Grill is open from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Otto's Café
Otto's, located at 711 N. Broadway, was built in 1945 as an annex to the old Hotel Stilwell. Like Bob's Grill, it offers both breakfast and lunch menus all day.
Otto's is well-known for its cozy atmosphere and friendly service. The menu includes breakfast combinations, hash browns, as well as soups, salads, sandwiches and hot lunch entrees.
The cost for a meal is about $5. Otto's is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Marty's Deli
Marty's Deli is an easy restaurant to drive by and not notice. However, the variety of low-cost lunch specials is worth checking out. Marty's is located at 2006 S. Joplin, a few blocks south of Ford Street.
Marty's menu consists of lunch specials, some of which include grilled hamburgers and hot sandwiches, homemade french fries and cold-cut deli sandwiches. The average price for lunch is around $5.
