The Student Government Association held it's last meeting of the year with the current SGA members on Wednesday night. Mark Johnson, faculty senator, congratulated the Senate on the advances it made this year for the university.
"On behalf of the faculty I want to applaud you," Johnson said. "You have really accomplished quite a bit this year. You moved the agenda ahead on discussion of diversity, you have moved the agenda on wind energy and so on. You've really done some things. I applaud you for your efforts and thank you for letting me be a part of it."
The last SGA meeting with the current senators was originally scheduled for next week, but because of many off-campus activities that members of the senate were going to be attending, there were questions of whether or not quorum would be made, so the meeting was cancelled.
In other news:
- Eddie Penner, vice-president, submitted a resolution to change the location of the Diversity Roundtable from the Balkans Room of the Overman Student Center to the Crimson and Gold Ballroom.
"The Diversity Roundtable is an event that is going to be student led and an opportunity for students to come and discuss topics with other students that are issues of diversity on campus," Penner said. "Things we are going to discuss will be race issues, religious issues, gender issues and things of that nature. It's open to the whole campus."
Penner explained that the turnout for the event is going to be larger than expected, currently estimated at 100 people, and that the ballroom would be a better location. The resolution was voted on by the Senate and passed unanimously.
-SGA will hold elections for new members Monday through Friday, April 14-18. The next official SGA meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, when new senators will be sworn in.
