In reality, most of the Greek houses try to teach their members to be scholars, leaders, gentlemen and athletes. They aren't teaching them how to pop collars and pop roofies into drinks.

What is so evil about organizations that are out there to try to better students who join?

Many students also believe that fraternities are a poor investment because they don't need to pay to have friends.
That's one of the dumbest statements I have ever heard.

Almost every organization has membership dues that pay for events throughout the semester. The money we pay to the fraternity houses is used to send people to leadership conferences, pay for fund-raisers and for fun events, like formals and run-outs with sororities.

Many people base their opinions on what other people tell them, what they've seen on TV and in the movies, so they never give Greek life a chance. I will admit that fraternities aren't for everyone, but unless you take that chance, you'll never know what opportunities you're missing.
Some of my best friends are people I met through my house, and the support from a Greek house has actually kept me in school and helped me pass my classes.
So, why believe the rumors?
