Alysha Dockum, a PSU junior in commercial art, was accepted into a juried competition and currently has work featured in the 2008 Kansas City Artist Coalition Undergraduate College Exhibition.
"I'm pretty excited about the exhibit," Dockum said. "The Art Walk is great in Pittsburg, but it's nice to have work showcased in Kansas City for the exposure. Being in a show with Kansas City artists makes my education feel comparable to theirs."
Dockum is one of 30 artists featured in the exhibit, which will be on display in the Artist Coalition gallery until April 25. Her piece is one of a series of five staircases chosen from perspective drawings for her Design II course.
"I chose the staircases because they are supposed to be structurally sound, and in contrast I used stitching on translucent paper to create a light, delicate rendering," said Dockum. "I chose staircases that are familiar to me. The one in this piece is the staircase in Porter Hall leading to the jewelry room. I like it because of the neat banister column; it's really pretty."
Dockum also has work on display at Wheat State Pizza across from campus. Her favorite media include fabrics and string, although she also does a lot of work with stencils. Some of her work will be on display in the Spring Art Walk on April 26.
"The Art Walk is amazing. Everyone should go," said Dockum. "There's music and art; if you're looking for a Pittsburg cultural experience, the art walk is it."
