The Pitt State men's golf team will travel to Branson on Monday and Tuesday, April 21 and 22, to compete in the MIAA tournament. The team is under the direction of first-year head coach Derek Joiner, who is also an assistant basketball coach at PSU.
"We have a chance to finish as high as fifth," said Joiner. "I'm hoping we can do well."

The team currently sits in seventh place, with 10.5 points. Washburn holds the lead in the MIAA with 32 points.

Points are awarded for each tournament the team competes in, with the first-place team receiving eight points, and the last place team receiving one point. The points will double for the MIAA tournament, with ties sharing points.

"We just want to make sure everyone plays as a team," said Joiner.

The team traveled to Kansas City on April 8 to participate in the Kansas City Intercollegiate Invitational, where it took eighth place. This was team's last showing before the MIAA tournament.

Sophomore Kyle Capps tied for seventh place with an even par 72.

"We have a lot of young sophomores that have really stepped up to help the team out," said Joiner. "It's been a good team effort."

The MIAA tournament will be held on the Branson Creek Golf Course in Branson, Mo., beginning on Monday.
