Track team tackles two weekend tournaments

The track team had a busy weekend last week with the Emporia State Multi-Event on April 10 and 11, and the Emporia State Division II Challenge on April 12.
On the men's team, senior Jeremy Dunkle took second place and senior Nate Thomas took fourth place in the decathlon at the Multi-Events on April 11. Dunkle finished with 6,319 points, and Thomas finished with 6,280.
For the women's team, junior Ali Shaffer placed second in the heptathlon, finishing with 4,383 points.
At the ESU Division Challenge, freshman Darius Johnson finished the 400-meter dash at 49.15, earning him second place. Sophomore David Martin followed close behind him, finishing at 50.01 and taking third place.
Majahid Hassaballa, sophomore, took first in the 1,500-meter run, finishing at 3:59.07. Senior David Cox also garnered a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 9:37.75.
Aaron Dunbar, freshman, finished the high jump in third place, with 1.95 meters, and Braden Hayes, sophomore, took second in discus, with a 52.45-meter throw.
Haley Mendicki, junior, earned third place in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 25.60 for the women's team. Freshmen Brittney Graff and Caitlin Laskowski took second and third place, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run, with 10:55.34 and 10:59.06.
Erica Ogle, junior, took first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 11:23.49, and Lauren Carr, freshman, placed third in the 5,000-meter run, finishing at 19:20.46. Michelle Mitchell, freshman, took second in the pole vault event, with 3.50 meters.
The team will travel to Lawrence this weekend, April 17-19, to compete in the Kansas Relays.
