Nontraditional grad overcoming odds

"I'm shy when I first meet people; I really had to force myself to go check the university out but once I enrolled it went well," she said.
The majority of her professors have been encouraging and the Learning Center and University Counseling Services have been extremely helpful in getting her through the past two years.
"Being an active part of Students Against Violence through Education (SAVE) and the Sexual Assault Team (SART) has helped in making friends," she said.

"Fortitude, that's my motto," she said. "I hope to continue my education and come back to earn a bachelor's in community counseling; however, I have to take a semester off to study for the GRE as the results from the last one was too low for acceptance. I hate math and it appears to hate me."

Miller now has a deep hope for herself and others, and encourages students who feel overwhelmed to get some help.

"Never give up on your dreams no matter what the circumstances and never allow anyone to tell you your goals are unattainable because if you hang in there you can do most anything; just follow your dreams."
