The Native American Student Association will host a Spring Pow Wow, an event to celebrate Native American culture with dancing, food and entertainment this Saturday.
The event is meant to be annual, but Brandon Plott, a PSU alumnus, says NASA took some extra time off to plan this year's powwow.
"We haven't had one for the last two years," Plott said. "We took a good two years off to plan for it and make this one bigger and better than the ones in the past."
Plott says anyone interested in learning more about the Native American culture should attend.
"Just come," Plott said. "If you aren't familiar with the Native American culture, this is an awesome way to come and experience the dancing and the regalia (Native American attire)."
The powwow will be held in the Pittsburg Community Middle School's gymnasium and will start at 10:30 a.m. The Gourd dance, a dance to pray to the gods to help with a good harvest, will take place at 2 p.m., and again at 5:30 p.m. The grand entrance is scheduled for 7 p.m., in which the head man and woman will enter the arena.
"A powwow is just a gathering of friends to celebrate their culture," Plott said. "You don't have to be a member of a tribe or nation. Come out and have a good time."
