Looking Back
Soon-to-be grads reflect on their experiences at PSU
Issue date: 5/8/08 Section: After Hours
What do you regret most about college?
Not going to class my first two years of college, that is why I am still here. I took sociology my second senior year for the second time with the same teacher and got an A because I showed up to class as opposed to not going to class and failing it. I've been in college for five years but I could have been out of here in four years if I hadn't goofed around.
Kent Williams, senior in automotive
How are you different after your college experience? How has it changed you?
I have changed and grown immensely over the past four years. It is amazing how fast the time has gone! But with graduation fast approaching, it has hit me just how much I have grown. I have made many accomplishments, but also many mistakes. Each one has helped me to change and grow, and after four years, I finally know exactly who I am and who I want to be. I have gained confidence, self-respect and leadership skills that are worth so much more than any GPA.
Mallory Porter, senior in accounting
When finances got tough, what's the weirdest thing you've eaten?
I have eaten waffles for like the last year. I make them, and then freeze them and then I take them to work. I take them everywhere. That and I also heat a potato in the microwave and put barbeque sauce on it. I was digging through my refrigerator and I was like, 'What am I going to put on this?' We didn't have any butter or anything. It's not bad. It's the same thing as if you had barbeque potato chips.

What was your most difficult class during college and why?
Database Management. There's no other class I've put this much work into. We've had a group project where we have to basically design an application and hook it up to a database and input all the correct data. Designing it is the hardest part. If you know nothing about it, it's not totally relevant, but that is definitely the hardest class because the project was so detailed and intense. The funny thing is, in the whole class, most of the people didn't finish the project.
