The men's baseball team finished its 2008 season last weekend on a strong note, winning three out of four games against Fort Hays State University. The Gorillas' season ended there, with a 22-28 overall record and 16-20 in MIAA.

"We ended the season on a pretty good note," said head coach Steve Bever. "It certainly helped our outlook for next year and made us feel better about this season."

The team claimed victories in four of its final five games, including a 6-5 non-conference victory over Drury on April 30.
On May 2, the Gorillas traveled to Fort Hays to begin a pair of double headers, where they swept both wins. They took the first game 5-4 and the second 15-7. On May 3, they finished the weekend with split wins, taking the first game 4-3, but dropping the second 5-17.

"Obviously, we are satisfied with beating Fort Hays three out of four," said Bever. "We are definitely not as satisfied as we would have been if we made it to the tournament."

Fort Hays went on to compete in the MIAA Tournament, but Pitt State was not able to. They finished their season in sixth place and only the top four teams go on to play in the post season.
"It's not like we had a horrible season, we had some ups and downs," said Bever. "But we didn't accomplish as much as we would have liked to."

As for now, Bever is beginning work on recruiting new players to the baseball program, and beginning work for next year's team.
"We want to go out and get all those goals we didn't achieve this year."
