Hospital plans
to donate equipment to student rec center
Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center is donating two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to PSU for use at the student recreation center. The equipment will be presented at a ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, in the lobby on the north side of the center. Jonathan Davis, president and CEO of Mt. Carmel, and Steve Erwin, associate vice president of campus life and auxiliary services at PSU, will speak at the event. Vince Daino, director of the Student Recreation Center, will accept the equipment on behalf of the new center. AEDs are portable electronic devices that can stop cardiac arrhythmias that may lead to cardiac arrest. The machines, which can be used with little training, can stabilize a person's heartbeat when it becomes erratic and distressed.
PSU conducting promotional drive

The Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations is conducting a drive to promote Gorilla license plates. People who buy the plate in May or June will be entered in a drawing for prizes that include a flat-panel television, season tickets to the Rua Skybox, a Gorilla Bookstore shopping spree, PSU Fall Classic at Arrowhead tickets, and a PSU goody basket. Students will also be eligible for $1,000, $500 and $250 scholarships to the counties with the greatest percentage of new plates. The tax-deductible royalty fee for the plates is $30 a year. For details, call the alumni office 235-4758.
