Melissa Akins visualizes her perfect first date as going somewhere she and her date can interact and learn about each other. But where is the right place to take a first date in order to stimulate this interaction?
"From a girl's point of view, a good first date depends on a few things," Akins, senior in general studies, said. "The guy, where you go and what you do."
Akins recommends Brick Town, located at 111 N Pine St, for an intimate first date dinner. Brick Town offers a variety of food, as well as a pianist on Friday and Saturday nights to add to an intimate dating environment.
James Hartzfeld, sophomore in physical education, says that following up a nice dinner with a movie, although stereotypical, is a promising first date plan.
"Taking a girl out to a nice restaurant and a movie is a good way of showing her how serious you are about being with her, without making it seem like you are trying too hard," Hartzfeld said.
Akins agrees that movies can be a good addition to a date agenda, but said that there can be problems with seeing a movie on your first night out.
"I would say that movies are always fun, but for a first date they are kind of awkward," Akins said. "Think about it. You might not know each other very well and here you are just sitting quietly in the dark."
Instead, Akins recommends bowling for a more outgoing experience. Holiday Lanes, located at 2406 N. Broadway, offers bowling specials on different nights of the week. Monday and Wednesday nights are "Quartermania," where you pay a $7 cover charge and then every game after is only a quarter, including quarter soft drinks, hot dogs, popcorn and shoes. Sunday nights at Holiday Lanes offer "Bowl Your Brains Out," where you pay $10 for four hours of bowling and receive a free hot dog and soft drink.
"Bowling is a really great date idea where you can do something fun and personalities really come out," Akins said.
Bryan McCoy, junior in technology, also has a casual view on the perfect first date. McCoy thinks that the easiest way to ensure that everything goes smoothly is to take the girl out for a lunch date.
