These eateries all serve breakfast all day long, so customers can get their fill of eggs, pancakes, cereal, biscuits and gravy, omelets and other breakfast foods from $4 to $7.
A taste of Asia (sort of)
If your taste buds crave the flavors of the Orient, consider moving there. However, should you have an affinity for a more American-friendly version of those flavors, then Pittsburg will probably satisfy. Several Chinese restaurants offer buffets ranging from $5.25 to $8.50, as well as specialty dishes from their lesser-known menus. Bamboo Palace, 2711 N. Broadway ($5.59-$8.09); Yummy Buffet, 101 W. 29th St., (lunch specials for $5); Hunan House, 808 N. Broadway (nearly everything less than $6); and Lotus Chinese Restaurant, on U.S. Highway 69 north of Pittsburg, all offer different takes on chicken, beef and vegetables with sauces, noodles and rice.
Another option for Asian food is Typhoon, Pittsburg's only Thai restaurant, located at 1014 S. Broadway. Their selection consists mostly of noodles, rice and sauces, but the menu has more than 50 dishes combining vegetables, tofu, chicken, pork, beef and seafood, ranging from $7.50 (for the vegetarian selection) to $11.95 (for the seafood). Lunch specials are available for $5.95-$9.95.
The gamut
If none of the above categories tickle your taste buds, you're bound to find something in this final category.
A couple of establishments, El Charro, 3102 N. Broadway, and Café del Rio, located in the Meadowbrook Mall, have varieties of Mexican and Tex-Mex foods. El Charro has things as simple as tacos and burritos a la carte for $1.25 apiece, to the more elaborate mixings with beef, cheeses, pork, spinach, eggs and many others, running as high as $16. Lunch specials are available for $6.50. Café del Rio's lunch specials are similarly priced, ranging from $5.50 to $8, and meals from $6 to $14.
One of the most popular restaurants in town, the Mall Deli, unsurprisingly located in the mall, has food for some of the lowest prices in town. Several sandwiches can be had for between $2 and $5. Daily lunch specials offer a cheap solution for nearly every taste. Weekends are immensely crowded, so prepare to come early.
