Although college expenses tend to thin down students' wallets noticeably, the discounts offered by Pittsburg establishments make a student's life a bit easier. A range of Pittsburg restaurants, stores and hotels/motels give discounts to PSU students if they present a valid PSU ID card.
Many of these establishments have offered student discounts since their opening. Businesses that publicize the discounts acknowledge that it has helped boost their business.
"Students like cheap pizza stuff," said Jeremy Lemmon, general manager of Papa John's Pizza. "They come in for lunch or late at night. We have been offering student discounts from our opening in December 2005. We have publicized our discounts in the Collegio. Students are about 25 percent of our customers now."
Brandon Threnton, 1106 Drive-In manager, also says that giving discounts for students has improved his business.
"Students come in all day long. It is also because we are close to campus," said Threnton. "They are approximately 25 percent of people who come to our place."
Likewise, introducing lower prices for students and publicizing them on their Web site has attracted more students to Mall 8 movie theater.
"Students are 50 percent of our clients," said Paul Clark, the Mall 8 manager. "We are trying to give them discounts because they go to school."
